Forward Head Syndrome Worse Than Junk Food

Present information on normal placement of the upright spine reveals the importance of head position in relationship to your body. It is of extreme importance that the position of the cervical spine allow for your head to sit back atop of your shoulders.Sadly, the effects of gravity, poor posture, the weight of the head, or past trauma will cause neck and skull misplacement leading to something called "Forward Head" syndrome, meaning the forward displacement of the head where your chin is out in front of your shoulders and chest that causes pathological tension on the spinal cord and brain stem.

Rene Cailliet, M.D., director of the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Southern California, wrote about the effects of forward head syndrome in his book "Rejuvenation Strategy."

1. Incorrect head positioning leads to improper spinal function.
2. The head in forward posture can add up to 30 pounds of abnormal leverage on the cervical spine.
3. Forward head posture results in loss of vital lung capacity. In fact, lung capacity is depleted by as much as 30 percent. Loss of lung capacity leads to heart and blood vascular problems.
4. The entire gastrointestinal system is affected, particularly the large intestine. Loss of good bowel peristaltic function and evacuation is a common condition that comes with forward head posture and loss of spinal lordotic curves.
5. Forward head posture causes an increase in discomfort and pain. Freedom of motion in the first four cervical vertebrae is a major source of stimuli that causes production of endorphins in production many otherwise non-painful sensations are experienced as pain.
6. Forward head posture causes loss of healthy spine-body motion. The entire body becomes rigid as the range of motion lessens. Soon, one becomes hunched.

Major Medical Study On Chiropractic And Immunity

Many fields, including Chiropractic and Medicine, have shown that spinal misalignments (subluxations) can create visceral disease and immune dysfunction. A major medical study showed this link in 2004. The controlled study showed that vertebral correction treatment to reduce vertebral misalignments in patients with atopic dermatitis and bronchial asthma. The study also focused on the different connections between visceral and immune dysfunction and vertebral deformities.

It Was A Large Study:

Among 120 atopic dermatitis patients who received spinal correction treatments every day, 106 (88%) showed improvement in skin itching and 86 (72%) showed improvement in skin condition.Among 240 atopic dermatitis patients who did not receive spinal correction treatments every day, we could not obtain a sure treatment effect.

This is how “The 2004 Journal of Orthopedic Surgery” did a study and proved the relationship between vertebral deformities and allergic diseases.4 They concluded that chronic nerve compression secondary to vertebral deformity in the thoracic region had a significant effect on the immune function of atopic dermatitis and bronchial asthma patients. The adrenal cortex functions of these allergy patients may be in the chronic decline condition with this chronic nerve compression. Tapio Videman, M.D. published in Clinical Biomechanics 1987, proved that when Immobilization occurs (Subluxation) in a joint and remains there for more than 10-15 days, that joint begins to degenerate. (5) This was when post-operative patients of knee or hip replacements were forced to begin movement within 24 hours to prevent permanent damage.

A prospective study from “The Journal of American Geriatrics Society” 2004 proved that “Participants with hyperkyphotic posture had a significant, 2.4 times greater rate of death.”6 That's not back pain or arthritis....Death! Reverse or stop hyperkyphosis equals reversing or stopping death...According to the Medical Data!

The conclusion of one of the Most prominent up to date studies proving what Subluxation is and does and that is not associated with pain most of the time, was a study out of Clinical Neuorphysiology in 2007. This study proved that areas of reduced or restricted spinal motion causes spinal degeneration and changes in neurological communication between the brain and body are medically a fact and termed the Vertebral Subluxation Complex by Chiropractors.7 The study revealed that Vertebral Subluxation can be present without pain or with pain and getting rid of them requires a professional trained in detecting and correcting them much like a dentist does with symptomatic or asymptomatic cavities. ■Sitting not only causes Vertebral Subluxation Complex, it results in alack of regular full spinal motion that is required to recover from the falls and accidents of normal daily life.
■The stressors associated with living in industrial society make it virtually impossible to avoid Vertebral Subluxation Complex without regular chiropractic care just like it is virtually impossible to avoid dental cavities without brushing and flossing your teeth.

More HCG Diet Recipies

Crockpot Chicken or Beef
You can cook several pounds of chicken/beef ahead and freeze for convenience.
2 pounds chicken/beef
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper

Place all ingredients in a crockpot and add enough water to cover.
Cook for 8-9 hours on low until chicken/beef is very tender. Remove meat from crockpot and shred. Divide into 8 individual servings and place in small containers. Add 1-2 Tbsp. broth to each serving to keep moist. Seal and freeze. Hint: chill beef broth and skim off fat before using. Save remainder of broth for use in other recipes.

Pressure Cooked Chicken or Beef
2 pounds chicken or beef
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1/2-3/4 C. water

Directions: You can cook several pounds of beef/chicken ahead in a pressure cooker. Remove visible fat from beef or use chicken breasts. Add all the ingredients and pressure chicken for 30 minutes and beef 50-60 minutes. Remove the meat and shred upon completion. Divide into 8 individual servings and place in small containers. Add 1-2 Tbsp. of the broth to each serving to keep it moist. Freeze extras. Hint: Chill beef broth and skim off fat before using. Save the additional broth for other recipes.

2# lean ground beef or chicken
2 cans diced tomatoes
1 C. water
1 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. cumin
2 tsp. chili powder
Salt and pepper to taste.

Cook ground meat until done. Remove from frying pan into a colander and rinse under hot water to remove all fat. Return to pan and add the remaining ingredients. Simmer for 20-30 minutes. Divide into 8 portions and package. Serve with Melba toast and additional fresh tomato wedges to complete your vegetable. Freeze unused packages for quick meals later.

French Onion Soup
1 1/2 C. beef broth
1/2 C. water
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 -1 onion, cut in thin strips
1 clove garlic, minced
Salt and pepper to taste.

Brown onions and garlic in a little water and lemon juice. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 20 minutes. You can also add your beef to the soup to make it more hearty.

Chicken Soup
100 g. chicken, diced
1 can chicken broth
1/2 C. water
3 stalks celery with tops, sliced
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. Braggs Liquid Aminos
Add all ingredients into a medium sauce-pan and simmer until chicken is cooked, about 15-20 minutes. Remove from heat and serve.

Suggestion: for a Mexican flavor add a dash each of cumin and chili powder and garnish with 1 Tbsp. fresh cilantro, chopped. 1 serving
Cabbage and Chicken Soup
12 oz. chicken, cooked and shredded
1 can chicken broth
1 Tbsp. celery heart leaves, chopped
1 med. head cabbage, rough chop
2 tsp. lemon juice
2-3 tsp. Braggs Liquid Aminos
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1 Tbsp. fresh cilantro, chopped

Add all the ingredients together, reserving cilantro, in a medium stock pan. Cook until the cabbage is wilted. Sprinkle with cilantro. Season to taste, and serve. Note: If using raw chicken, dice and cook it in the chicken broth with everything except the cabbage and cilantro. Once the chicken is cooked add the cabbage and cook until it wilts. Sprinkle with cilantro and serve.

Chicken Tomato Soup
4 oz. chicken breast, cooked and shredded
1 15 oz. can diced tomatoes
1 C. chicken broth
1/2 C. water
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1-2 tsp. fresh celery tops, chopped

Add all ingredients to a medium saucepan, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes.

Cabbage and Apples
2 C. cabbage, roughly chopped
1 large red delicious apple, chopped
1/2 C. apple cider vinegar
1/4 c. water
2 Tbsp. Braggs Liquid Aminos
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste

Saute all ingredients in a skillet until cabbage and apples are tender. Serve hot.

1 Serving of fruit and vegetable
Baked Apples

4 large apples, cored
2 packets of Stevia
2 Tbsp. water
Pinch of cinnamon
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Core the apples, being careful not to cut clear to the bottom, and pare a strip from the top of each. Place in an 8x8 inch baking dish. Dissolve the Stevia in the 2 Tbsp. of water. Divide into four portions and put 1/2 Tbsp. of sugar/water mixture into each apple. Sprinkle each with a pinch of cinnamon.
Pour 1 C. of water around the apples and bake uncovered for 45-60 min.
You may add additional drops of Vanilla Crème Stevia to the finished product.

Serves 4

1 large red delicious apple, chopped
1/4 C. water
Dash of cinnamon
1 packet of Stevia

Place apples, water and cinnamon in a small saucepan. Cook until apples come to a boil. Add the Stevia and turn heat to a simmer. Cook covered until most of the water is gone, stirring every few minutes. Remove from heat, puree, adding additional water as necessary.

Apple Compote
Using the same ingredients as above, follow the directions and cook until the apples are tender. Serve warm, pouring the thickened liquid over the top.

Strawberry Vinaigrette Dressing
2-3 strawberries, hulled and quartered
1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
Stevia to taste
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
Dash of salt

Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender until smooth. Use on salads and garnish with additional strawberries to complete your fruit serving.
Suggestion: on a bed of fresh spinach, add your allotted beef or chicken and top with sliced strawberries. Serve with the dressing.

Strawberry Lemonade
2-3 strawberries, mashed
Juice of 1/2 lemon
8 oz. water
Stevia to taste

Mix together and enjoy!

Chocolate Raspberry Stevia Stevia flavorings to your coffee.
Vanilla Crème Stevia 1 serving

Flavored Stevia (root beer, grape, orange, vanilla, etc.)
3 Tbsp. lemon, orange, or lime juice (optional)

To the 8 oz. of mineral water, add flavored Stevia of your choice. Serve chilled. Get creative!

Nine Danger Signals of an Unhealthy Spine

We have increasingly become a society that relies on pain to tell us when something is “wrong”. However, pain is just one signal, and often the last, that your body is in trouble. A heart attack is often the first sign of cardiovascular disease. When would you like to take care of the problem? When your body is in complete crisis, or early on when your body gives you signals that there is a problem that it cannot overcome on its own?

These nine danger signs of an unhealthy spine indicate that you could likely benefit from chiropractic care.

* Numbness, tingling or pain in the arms, hands, legs or feet. These are signs of vertebral subluxation, or in layman’s terms a “pinched nerve”.

* Your shoes wear unevenly or your clothes hang on you unevenly. This often is due to uneven leg length or increased muscle tension or spasm along predominantly one side of the spine. Health is about symmetry and balance in function.

* You can’t take a satisfying deep breath. Midback (thoracic) vertebral subluxations can cause the uncomfortable feeling of tightening of the ribcage.

* You have to “crack” your neck, back, or other joints a lot. This phenomenon can be caused by uneven movement of the spinal joints. When a spine is in trouble, some joints move too much and some too little, created unbalanced movement and muscle tension.

* You can’t twist or turn your head or torso to either side easily and equally. Reduced range of motion is often noticed when backing up a car or turning to look when changing lanes while driving. This is caused by areas of your spine that are locked or jammed.

* You are often fatigued. An unbalanced spine drains your energy because it is inefficient in its function.

* You suffer bouts of dizziness. Vertebral subluxations often affect our balance system.

* You have low resistance to disease. You are in general poor health and/or you just don’t feel right! Subluxations affect your neuroendocrine system, which plays an important role in your resistance to disease and your ability to fight infection. Few people realize that our immune function is neurologically controlled.

Anxiety - Wide-Ranging Health Effects

Humans appear to be hard-wired for modest levels of anxiety as a fear-arousal warning mechanism. Anxiety may be characterized as uneasiness, fear, worry, and apprehension. Anxiety is a common psychological state in which the basic message is "get away from this situation". The state is usually accompanied by numerous physiologic components including surges of the hormone adrenaline, increased heart rate and elevated blood pressure, and increased blood flow to the major muscle groups as the body prepares for "fight or flight".

These are all normal responses to environmental threats. The overall process is orchestrated by the amygdala and hippocampus, two regions of the brain's limbic system which process memory, emotional response, and spatial navigation. But for many people, if anxiety states become frequent and prolonged by various developmental circumstances in childhood and their teenage years, they may begin to respond to perceived rather than real threats. The anxiety state may persist and even become the default condition for the individual.

Those with chronic anxiety may experience chronic back pain,1,2 chronic muscular tension, fibromyalgia,3 headaches, chest pain, shortness of breath, and heart palpitations. Chronic anxiety may cause a person to anticipate the worst, to have ongoing feelings of dread, to be constantly irritable and tense, and to experience panic attacks. Eventually the person may become worn out from the constant drain on their inner resources and a likely outcome is depression. The person simply cannot take any more stress.

Chronic anxiety has a specific impact on the musculoskeletal system. Persistently elevated levels of adrenaline create ongoing tension in the postural muscles of the lower back and the weight-bearing, antigravity gluteal muscles, pelvic musculature, and hamstrings. The long-term results may include chronic lower back pain, inflammation of the sciatic nerve, and lumbar disc disease. Of course, any of these health problems create more anxiety for the person, establishing a vicious circle of anxiety, pain, more anxiety, and more pain.

Solutions for chronic anxiety usually require multidisciplinary holsitic approaches. Nutrition, for example, is a key factor in restoring a person's homeostatic mechanisms. Significantly reducing one's intake of simple carbohydrates - soda, muffins, cookies, cake, fast food, and even juice - will often have a substantial impact. Making sure to have five servings of fresh fruits and vegetables every day will also provide great benefit.

Holistic Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is about much more than bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. The focus of chiropractic is on the musculoskeletal system, and yet the benefits of chiropractic care extend far beyond these connective tissue structures.

Chronic musculoskeletal tension results in numerous biochemical changes such as excessive and prolonged build-up of lactic acid, a metabolic end-product of muscular contraction. These metabolites, which are accumulating wastefully and unnecessarily, irritate local nerve endings. Nerve irritation leads to increases in local muscle tension, setting-up a vicious circle of muscle tension, nerve irritation, more muscle tension, and more nerve irritation. Importantly, the irritated nerves send signals to all the other parts of the body, causing increased levels of activity and unnecessary use of precious resources. In these circumstances, the person may become irritable, gets tired more easily, has sleep disturbances, and even may develop various diseases.

Chiropractic care is a powerful healing method that affects many body systems as a result of addressing stresses in the musculoskeletal system.

Your New Reality

Is it possible to create a new personal reality? So-called unscripted television shows say you can - "The Biggest Loser" being one of the more popular of these tell-all and show-all programs. But most of us realize that these shows don't closely represent reality as we experience it. What causes us to tune in anyway? The answer is that even though reality shows may be scripted or controlled in some ways, they do contain an element of reality regarding the actual problems of the participants/contestants. We empathize with their struggles, and hope to discern some new knowledge that may help us overcome our own hurdles. But can a real person, in real life, make long-lasting changes in lifestyle, health, and wellness?

The provisional answer is yes.1,2,3 A real person can lose significant weight and keep it off. A real person can become physically fit, even though she hasn't exercised for 20 years, or ever. A real person can create a nutritional food plan that covers all the basics and also tastes great. A real person can sleep seven or eight hours a night, most nights, and have the ongoing experience of feeling well-rested. A real person can enjoy meaningful and fulfilling relationships with family and friends. In short, a real person can design and have a real life, even though from today's perspective such a rewarding life might seem an impossibly unattainable goal.

Your new reality is possible, but it doesn't come for free. If no effort were involved, every person in the developed world would be living happy, creative, self-fulfilled lives right now. You can see that is not the case when you look around at your workplace, the local market, or the shopping mall. How many people appear to be happy and engaged? How many appear anxious or stressed? Many times, anxiety and stress far outweigh happiness and enjoyment. For many, our default way of being seems to include worry, disorganization, disorder, and breakdown. These conditions lead to anxiety, which leads to stress, which leads to more worry and anxiety. When they form, these negative habits of thinking and action are habitually ineffective; they continue to be negative influences on our lives until we abolish them. In terms of health and well-being, our negative habits lead to the opposite conditions - we aren't healthy and we don't feel good about ourselves.

The world around us works the same way. Every moment, the universe is tending to greater entropy - the breakup of organized energy patterns and greater disorder. On the other hand, life has the power to reverse the natural tendency toward entropy. Life creates structure. Life creates organization. Think of honeycombs. Think of dams. Think of skyscrapers.

Why then do human lives often seem to fall apart so easily? The missing secret ingredients include intention, planning, and effort. And not only the effort required to keep the whole thing operational. Extra effort is called for to really make a difference. Extra effort that we take on our own behalf. In order for us to create a new personal reality, extra effort will be required. Weeks, months, and years of extra effort. This sounds like a lot. It is. The good news is that the payoff can be huge. The real payoff is the person you become as part of this process of renewal. You become your authentic self.

120-Day Makeover

Your body's cells and tissues are constantly undergoing replacement, remodeling, and makeovers. For example, your red blood cells - the cells that carry oxygen from your lungs to every other part of your body - replace themselves every 120 days. Other cells with such a high rate of turnover include the cells lining your gastrointestinal tract - stomach, small intestine, and large intestine - and hair cells.

Ultimately all of your body's cells die and are replaced. What this means is that the "new you" doesn't have to be the same as the "old you".
