Discussion on Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hcg)

By Dr. Jon Wise

Over the last several years, Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hcg)has received significant media attention, both positive and negative. Although somewhat controversial, it is currently being used for clinical weight management.

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hcg)is a glycoportein hormone composed of 244 amino acids. the hcg molecule is produced by trophoblast cells of the placenta during pregnancy; its role is to prevent disintegration of the corpus luteum, thereby promoting progesterone production. The hcg hormone may have additional functions: for instance, it is thought that hcg may be a placental link for the development of local maternal immunotolerance. Additionally, hcg plays a role in cellular differentiation and proliferation which assist in fetal development. What most people also do not really understand is that hcg also assist in opening the gates between your fat storage and your blood stream. Which is why pregnant women tend to store body fat extremely fast during the 9 month process.

The first report on hcg for weight management was published in 1954 by the late Dr. ATW Simeons, a German-born Physician practicing in Rome. While working in India, Simeons observed that body fat distribution was modified in boys who displayed Adiposogenital dystrophy and were treated with hcg. Simeons hypothesized that hcg acted at diencephalic level, modulating hypothalamic regulatory centers, which were in turn responsible for fat accumulation. He theorized that hcg moved body fat from available for metabolism while mobilized. Simeons believed that this redistribution of body fat could be combined with a hypo-caloric diet, allowing the body to consume "fat on the move." The resulting effect is similar to the body of a pregnant women rapidly metabolizing its own fat stored to nourish a developing fetus.

Simeon eventually extended his investigations to patients showing varying degrees of obesity and ultimately concluded that hcg might be useful for the treatment of obesity. In Simeons' studies, hcg seemed to assist patients in resisting cravings and tolerating a very low calorie diet without suffering headaches, irritability, weakness or other side effects of this approach to weight loss. In 1954 Simeons reported in the medical journal The Lancet that patients who followed the regimen for 40 days lost 20-30 pounds, and that 70% of them maintained their weight loss after going off the diet. Over the next several years, doctors who put their own patients on Simeons' regiment reported similar successes. My own patients have seen the same similar success over the last few years. For most who have read my last post, already know that I, myself, use to weight 315 lbs. I have lost 70 lbs and do plan on continuing to use my product until I achieve my weight loss goals!

Regulation and Controversy:
The US FDA has approved hcg as a fertility treatment, but does not recognize hcg as an obesity treatment despite years of smaller studies and 100,000's of case studies and individual claims. The FDA allows doctors to prescribe hcg for weight loss, but requited notice indicating that hcg is not approved for this "off label" purpose. Whether used for fertility or weight management, hcg traditionally been administered in pharmacological doses and only available to patients through a prescription. Even homeopathic hcg needs to prescribed by a physician or medical care provider who is licensed and qualified to prescribe homeopathic remedies.

As a side note: Always make sure your homeopathic remedies are coming from an FDA registered and regulated homeopathic lab. There are many people out there that are attempting to sell "Homeopathic remedies" ihncluding but not limited to hcg, thse products can be made in their houses or garages or purchased from outside of the country and may not officially know what is in the bottle.

Over the last several years, "homeopathic hcg" has become a very popular alternative to hcg injections for weight management. Compared to injections, homeopathically prepared hcg is widely promoted as being easier to administer (without the need for needles) and devoid of side effects.

HCG is not listed as an official ingredient in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States (HPUS); accordingly, homeopathic hcg is not recognized by the fda or the HPUS as an official remedy, even when it is prepared according to the homeopathic guidelines for comparable substances. Like all homeopathic remedies, homeopathic hcg is energetic medicine, it has been energetically activated by hand succussion.

What can HCG do for me:
* Lose up to 1-2 pounds per day (1 lbs of fat burned = 3500 Calories)
* Eliminates Abnormal fat
* Re-sculpts your body
* HCG resets your hypothalamus
* Your skin retracts so you aren't flabby later
* Protects your Muscle
* Dramatically reduces hunger
* HCG is a natural hormone substance
* Exercise is not needed to reduce

The Body Sculpting Benefits of HCG Treatments:
Many of the people that are using HCG to help them lose weight are finding that the hormone helps with the reshaping of their bodies as well. Unlike many weight loss programs that only help with losing weight, HCG appears to help contour the body and decrease the circumference of the body. HCG also helps tone common problem areas, such as reducing the amount of fat deposited in double chins and getting rid of pot bellies. HCG also appears to help rejuvenate structural fat, which helps make the hands, neck, and face look refreshed.

The Health Benefits of the HCG Diet:
Obviously, shedding extra pounds will help improve the overall health of a person on the HCG diet. Researchers also believe that taking HCG helps to normalize the cholesterol levels of those on the diet. In addition, the hormone appears to help normalize the thyroid gland and balance the hormones while rebuilding the adrenaline glands. We even had patients who normalized their blood sugar and voluntarily stopped their Diabetic medication.

The Emotional Benefits of the HCG Diet:
People on the HCG diet also routinely report experiencing less irritability and generally feeling in a better mood. This lift in spirits seems to continue throughout the entire treatment period. Patients also report having more restful sleep, which may be partially responsible for the improved mood. Similarly, patients report feeling more energized while undergoing the therapy. This may be attributed to the improvement in sleep, the loss of excess weight, and the positive impact HCG has on the adrenaline glands.

For many, just the weight loss benefits of HCG would be enough to make this hormone worth taking. If there is anything I can ever do for you, please do not hesitate to ask.

A chiropractic physician may prescribe, dispense, and administer herbal medicines, homeopathic medicines, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, glandular products, naturally derived substances, protomorphogens, live cell products, gerovital, amino acids, dietary supplements, foods for special dietary use, bioidentical hormones, sterile water, sterile saline, sarapin or its generic, caffeine, procaine, oxygen, epinephrine, and vapocoolants.

These weight reduction treatments include oral HCG or an injection of HCG, a drug which has not been approved by the food and drug administration as safe and effective in the treatment of obesity or weight control. There is no substantial evidence that HCG increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or "normal" distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restrictive diets.

Common uses of HCG: HCG is presently relied upon as a medication for fertility and it is also used to safely promote the production of testosterone in males.It is not approved by the FDA for weight loss.

HCG Side effects: The HCG side effects one will have to keep an eye out for include the onset of headaches, irritability, restlessness, slight water retention, tenderness of breast tissue, and depression. There are some very rare, severe side effects as well which include the development of ovarian hyperstimulation in females. The latter condition requires immediate medical treatment and is accompanied by the following symptoms: tremendous pain in the region of the pelvis, the swelling of feet, legs, and hands, abdominal pain, abdominal swelling, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, a diminishing of urination, and weight gain. If a user of HCG products notes any side effects it is recommended that he or she cease using the products immediately and that he or she seek out the assistance of a physician.
