Chiropractic adjustments affect brain function.

The nervous system:
This is the body's vital electrical information transfer network. In a living organism, organisation functions best if it can rely on a nervous system that will instantaneously deliver information to the parts that need it. By removing a form of interference in your nervous system (subluxation), you enable this organisation to be improved, sharpening its ability to meet the increasing challenges of today.

The nervous system is the body's most important organ. It is employed for the purposeful transfer of information around the body. It allows organisation of growth and development. It houses the mind, processes the senses, enables action and reaction, and allows expression of personality and purpose.

The nervous system allows awareness and enables a person to be. Nerves arise in the brain, travel down the spinal cord where they branch off through openings between your vertebrae, and connect to every part of the body. This connection is vital. The brain sends mental impulses to each of the body's more than 100 trillion cells, giving them direction on how to function properly. At the same time, each part of the body is sending the brain information concerning the body's internal and external environment. These mental impulses are transmitted to and from the brain by way of the nerves passing through the vertebrae of the spine.

The Brain:

Chiropractic affects the brain. Studies show that chiropractic adjustments affect brain function and have whole body implications.

Proper and adequate spinal neural interaction is necessary for proper and adequate brain function. Chiropractic care improves brain efficacy and efficiency.

The brain and the nervous system, like other parts of the body, pass through a critical period of development from conception to around age two. Therefore ongoing chiropractic care is critical for infants. It is also essential for children because neural development continues until around the age of ten.

Chiropractic improves brain function. The body has a wonderful ability to self repair and regenerate. This is a normal function of the body. The brain and spinal cords of children especially have a huge capacity to repair due to the presence of neural stem cells, cells which grow new nerve tissue repairing damage and allowing neurological recovery. This fact would be especially important for the parents of brain damaged children, vaccine damaged children, and those children with developmental and/or behavioural problems (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ADHD, autism). This fact would also be of interest to victims of stroke and neurological dis-ease like epilepsy or multiple sclerosis. Chiropractic improves brain and nervous system function, irrespective of diagnosis allowing the body to work better, faster and improving vitality and quality of life.

Brain Anatomy
The brain can be simply divided up into the brain stem, the cerebellum, the limbic system, and the cerebrum.

Brain Stem
The brain stem is continuous with the top of the spinal cord. It contains the vital centres controlling reflexes for breathing, along those for cardiovascular, visceral and organ tone.

These centres are described as vital because they control functions essential for life. Each and every adjustment fires off centres within the brain stem. This affects both visceral and organ function and background muscle tone, -improving response.

Cerebellum
The cerebellum is that part of the brain at the back of the brain stem and tucked under the cerebrum at the back. It was originally thought to simply control only co-ordination of movement. Recently however, it has been found to be responsible for one's ability to think and problem solve as well as one's ability to be emotionally stable.

The cerebellum processes the information from the spine regarding its mechanics, function, alignment and ability to move. This is hugely important for chiropractic because input from chiropractic adjustments go through the cerebellum and so everything affected by the cerebellum is affected, in turn, by the spinal adjustment.

Limbic System
The limbic system is the portion of the nervous system responsible for a state of well being and emotion. In mediating well being and emotion, the limbic system effects autonomic, hormonal and behavioural functions.

The limbic system includes the amygdala, the hypothalamus, and the dorsal roots of the spinal cord at each vertebral level. In this regard a direct connection at every level of the spine to the limbic system has been established. Consequently, the ability of the limbic system to function and express itself without interference requires a subluxation free spine.

Cerebrum
The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain. It is covered by a six-layer cortex, which is unique to humans and is what essentially makes us human. The cerebrum controls consciousness, intelligence, reasoning, memory, personality and awareness. Cerebral function depends upon the quality of the function and information from all other areas of the brain and spinal cord.

Improved input leads to improved output. Chiropractic adjustments improve the function of the spinal neural system. The result is improved function of the brain stem, the cerebellum, the limbic system, the cerebrum and the cortex.

5 Surprising Ways Yoga Affects Your Health

A new study adds rheumatoid arthritis to the list of health problems yoga can help alleviate.Regular stretching and use of breathing techniques can go a long way. Yoga is famous for improving flexibility and encouraging relaxation, but more and more research shows that the practice offers benefits that go beyond calming you down. For example, a recent study in

Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine found that 75-minute yoga sessions, performed three times a week for 10 weeks, eased symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in a group of women between 45 and 75. The yoga classes also improved their disability related to RA, improved their balance, and decreased symptoms of depression in the women. Read on for other ways you can use yoga to improve your health.

1. It helps you fight food cravingsKeeping off unwanted weight can be a little easier with a regular yoga routine. According to Prevention magazine, in a study of 15,500 average-weight adults, people gained three fewer pounds annually over the course of four years if they followed a routine of 30 minutes of yoga per week. The weight loss may be a result of creating a closer relationship between mind and body during yoga, allowing participants to fight overeating. iYogaLife.com, a Web site that provides yoga workouts, articles, and research, suggests moving into a simple yoga pose when food cravings threaten to overwhelm your better judgment.

Cravings generally strike when our bodies are tense; loosening muscles with yoga movements makes it easier to reflect on whether or not you really need that candy bar.Doctors say a little fitness work, a few times a week, can save your life.

2. It helps you have a healthy pregnancyHoning in on your happy and calm place with yoga meditation may insure your little one arrives just as relaxed. According to Prevention, a study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that doing yoga while pregnant increased the odds of a healthy delivery. The 335 women studied added a yoga routine during their second trimester; the result was higher birth weights and lower pregnancy-induced hypertension compared to non-yoga-practicing participants.

3. It boosts your performance in the bedroomYoga movements can improve balance and flexibility not only on the mat, but in bed as well. According to Women's Health, yoga pros can utilize the increase in strength and confidence in their sex life. Movements focusing on body alignment increase blood flow and sexual desire. Yoga poses that focus on balance and abdominal contraction will strengthen your core as well as your orgasm because of the focus on pelvic muscles. Overall body awareness, vital to yoga workouts, also boosts confidence—making you a more assertive partner.See how simple life changes can prevent diseases like diabetes and improve your overall health.

4. It lowers risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetesIncreasing your yoga routine can be mentally relaxing and benefit your heart, as well. Another study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, which looked at 98 adults with varying health concerns, such as hypertension, coronary artery disease and diabetes, found significant improvements in blood sugar and total cholesterol levels with the incorporation of yoga into their routine. The group took part in an eight-day lifestyle-modification program that included common yoga practices like posture awareness, deep breathing, meditation, nutritional changes and group support.

5. It helps cancer patients sleep betterThe calming meditation practices often used in yoga are great to take your mind off a stressful day, and to help you sleep better. In a study done at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, lymphoma patients improved their sleeping habits by practicing Tibetan yoga. After taking a 20-minute yoga class once a week for seven weeks, patients fell asleep faster, slept longer and reduced the amount of sleep medication they needed.
